Meet the Board of Education:
Paul Jensen - Board President
I have been a resident of Freehold Borough for four years with my wife Christine and 11-year-old son Patrick, who attends 6th grade at the Freehold Intermediate School. Before settling in Freehold Borough, I lived in Jackson, NJ and grew up in Edison, NJ. I enjoy all sports especially running, cycling and basketball. I am a volunteer coach for the Colonial Basket Ball League and Co-founder of the Freehold Borough Family Running Club. I also volunteer my time on the Freehold Borough Recreation Commission and for STOMP The Monster™, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides financial and other support to cancer patients.
I graduated with honors from the New York Restaurant School, and am employed by the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen as a Manager of Kitchen and Food Services.
Bruce Patrick - Board Vice President
Bruce Patrick has served on the Freehold Borough Board of Education since 2011. He currently serves as Chair of the Policy Committee and is the alternate delegate to New Jersey School Boards Association.
For the past 24 years, Bruce and his wife Carolyn have lived in Freehold Borough. Their daughter Candace, a graduate of Park Avenue Elementary and Freehold Intermediate schools, is currently a sophomore at Freehold Borough High School.
Bruce holds a Masters Degree in Bacteriology and Public Health and has worked as a research scientist at the New York State Institute for Basic Research for 37 years. The focus of his research is biomarkers for Downs Syndrome, Alzheimers disease and Autism Spectrum disorders. Bruce has been recognized by the New York Blood Center for his work coordinating blood drives for over 30 years.
Bruce has been active in the schools PTOs and participated in strategic planning sessions. His primary concern continues to be the ongoing inequality in state funding, it’s affect on the quality of education in our school district, and it's impact on the local school taxes.
Along with other Borough parents he has attended numerous state Senate and Assembly finance committee hearings to lobby over the States inadequate funding of our schools. Bruce is a strong advocate for the role of the arts in our schools; he believes that all students in the district deserve a high-quality well-rounded education.
Paul & his wife, Trish, have lived in Freehold since 1998 and have 2 daughters in the Borough’s school district. Prior to being elected to the Board in 2013, Paul participated in the district’s Strategic Planning forums. Paul & his family can often be seen walking downtown, riding their bikes throughout the community or volunteering at PTO sponsored events.
Paul earned his Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Monmouth University and is currently employed by the NJ Economic Development Authority, where he assists companies looking to expand within New Jersey and municipalities on their redevelopment efforts. Prior to joining the NJEDA in 2007, he worked for 12 years at the NJ Housing and Mortgage Financing, which provides various programs for developers & sponsors of affordable housing developments.
I am a lifelong Jersey Girl with a love for travel. No matter where in the world my husband, Scott, and I have visited, Freehold remains our beloved adopted “Hometown”. Community building is my calling in retirement. You may have seen me around town as a volunteer or walking our dog. As a teacher for more than 25 years, I know the importance of Public Education access for every student, and abhor inadequate funding of our schools. Serving on the BOE, and advocating at Statewide meetings helps to mitigate that. As a Realtor, I have been thrilled at the increasing number of young families moving in, ready to raise their children, right here in the Borough!

I was born and raised in Lakewood, New Jersey and, after graduation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1970, I entered the US Army as a chemical officer. I served four years in the Republic of Panama and, upon my return, my wife Lynn, a native of Freehold Borough, moved into town in 1974.
During the next few years, I earned a Master of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma; a Master of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Law Degree from Seton Hall Law School. After a number of varied careers, I began the practice of law in 1987 and did that continuously until the present day. I am semi-retired and work as part-time corporate counsel for a firm in Wall, New Jersey.
During my many years as a resident of Freehold Borough, I have been actively involved in local activities. For example:
- Member of the Freehold Borough Board of Education as stated above
- Board of Directors, Freehold Center Management Corp., 1989 to 2003

- Adjunct Professor, Rutgers University OLLI-RU, 10/18
Coach, Freehold Girls Soccer League, 1992 to 1998 and Traveling Team, 1994 to 2001
- Manager, Freehold Girls Soccer League, Senior Division, 1996 to1998
- Member of Board of Trustees, Freehold Soccer League, 1995 to 1997
- President, Kingsley Square Townhouse Association, Inc., 1979 to 1982.

Member of various Freehold Borough Boards and Commissions, 1979 to 1990.
- Grade 8 USSF Youth Soccer Referee, ages 11 to 19.
I received the Circle of Excellence Award from the Western Monmouth Chamber of Commerce in 1998 in the not-for-profit category. My wife Lynn is a retired art teacher from the Freehold Township School District after 31 years. My children, Adam and Amanda, are products of the Freehold Borough School system and the Freehold Regional High School (as is my wife).
My goal is to see that the Board of Education operates with the best interests of the children of Freehold Borough and that we receive the amounts of State aid required to make us a “thorough and efficient” school district within the meaning of the state law and under S-2. I will work with the school administration to assure proper operation of the district as required by a school board member.
